Overview

The Behavior Technician is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include: Delivering high-quality, evidence based, one-on-one / direct applied behavior analysis therapy (a form of evidence based therapy for children with autism) as a technician under the direction / supervision of a Behavior Analyst. Assisting the Behavior Analyst and supporting behavior leadership team members (e.g., Assistant Behavior Analysts) in analyzing behavior, developing behavioral planning, implementing behavioral plans or interventions, and monitoring fidelity and/or outcomes.

Summary

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of job functions.  This job description is in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.  The employee is required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as assigned by management.

1. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
2. To ensure appropriate and uninterrupted coverage, all call-ins must be no later than 90 minutes before your first scheduled appointment of the day.
3. Acquire, demonstrate, and maintain ability to carry out behavioral tasks with consistency (e.g. presentation of a discriminative stimulus or differential reinforcement of alternative behavior).
4. A willingness to demonstrate behavioral responses on a consistent basis (and be Checklisted).
5. Direct implementation of ABA (generally conducting 1:1 ABA therapy during approximately 75% of weekly hours worked).
6. Engage in communication and collaboration with Behavior Leadership Team, as well as with the entire Center for Autism team.
7. Address questions with BCBA/aBA at beginning of or prior to sessions.
8. Complete documentation and billing in a timely and concise manner.
9. Accurate documentation of ABA data in Catalyst, a tablet-based data collection system. Accurate and timely completion of treatment notes in eCare (electronic medical record), including appropriate patient care documentation and compliance with funder-specific billing procedures.
10. Accurate and reliable data collection, must take real-time data.
11. Complete ancillary assignments as required by supervisor.
12. Monitor and maintain condition and availability of supplies necessary to job (reinforcers, etc.).
13. Collaborate with team members to maintain consumer/patient, family, and staff safety.
14. Collaborate with Behavior Leadership Team to identify areas of improvement.
15. Maintain a safe and fun environment.
16. Assist with training and development of Behavior Techs (if applicable).
17. Completion of assigned projects at the direction of the CFA leadership team.
18. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Educational / Talent Requirements:

1. Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field or 2 years completed while pursuing Bachelors; bachelor’s degree preferred. Individuals who are interested in obtaining a graduate degree in Behavior Analysis or related field are highly preferred. Individuals who wish to gain evidence-based autism therapy experience with an intention of pursuing a non-ABA clinical trajectory are preferred.
2. Meeting requirements for checklists:
a. A Checklist consists of BCBA/aBA observing and taking data on the Technician’s behavioral skills, such as implementing a treatment protocol element, responding correctly to target behaviors, and correcting patient errors, to assess treatment fidelity of ABA.
b. Technicians should expect to be routinely check listed by Behavior Leadership staff, and understand that checklists may occur with or without their knowledge and without advance notification.
3. Computer proficiency required.
4. Experience interacting with young (preschool age) children and a willingness to play, have fun with, be enthusiastic, and deliver evidence-based ABA services to young children.
5. Strong ability to communicate effectively and follow directives from Behavior Analysts and Assistant Behavior Analysts.
6. Current Michigan driver’s license with acceptable driving record per HN corporate policy.

 

Work Experience Requirements:
1. Due to the unique, rigorous approach of ABA, experience in other settings such as direct care roles in residential or outpatient mental health, K-12 educational settings, etc., are not considered relevant work experience for this role, although individuals with work history in these areas may still be considered.
2. Work experience under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, which involved serving as a technician or other trainee in an early intensive behavioral intervention program, is not required but is preferred, and candidates with this experience are encouraged to apply.
