    Overview

    The Medical Assistant is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include: Assisting the Nurse/Physician in the operation of the program. This includes monitoring operation of the medication administration and direct client health care of program consumers and assessment of medical needs.

    Summary

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
    This is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of job functions.  This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.  The employee is required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as assigned. 
     
    1. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
    2. Coordinates and implements infection control procedures and other quality assurance procedures to protect consumers, staff, and their associates.
    3. Document physical assessments, laboratory results/needs, and progress in treatment within the specified medical record keeping system as directed by licensed medical staff.
    4. Receiving patients and natural supports; screens phone calls; takes messages or makes appropriate referrals; provides factual information regarding the County or specific health unit activities and service which may require the interpretation of rules, policies and/or procedures when needed.
    5. Organizes patient charts for daily appointment schedule preparation and varied recordkeeping activities; may pull and file charts located within assigned area; reviews charts for necessary documentation and receive diagnostic test authorizations from health care staff; closes patient charts as authorized.
    6. Provides for intake and registration of patients; interviews patients to obtain medical information and appropriate documentation required to open patient charts.
    7. Facilitate vitals. Collection and maintenance of program drug/alcohol screens.
    8. Informs professional staff of lab, medication/injections as needed and diagnostic test results in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    9. Transcribes patient information presenting problem, histories, physical examination notes and related patient medical information containing specialized medical terminology; types various correspondence and documentation pertaining to patient diagnosis and treatment from drafts, dictated tapes or notes into the medical record keeping system (EMR) as determined by the prescribing agent. 
    May perform routine billing, preparation of medical procedure or test orders, and a variety of patient processing, documentation and recordkeeping duties, depending upon assignment.
    10. Review of documentation with the prescriber as needed to ensure that quality standards are optimal.
    11. Provide consumer education and support documents when directed by the prescribing professional.
    12. Assist with the obtainment of medications through prior authorizations, coordination with pharmacies, nurses and/or drug manufactures as needed. 
    13. Coordinate with the prescriber to reviews all documentation completed via transcribing when the patient encounter has concluded. Make needed corrections to the medical record as outlined by the prescriber/licensed medical staff.  The finalized document is reviewed by the prescriber/licensed medical staff and signed by the said staff which secures the prescriber/licensed staff responsibility of the medical record. 
    14. Assist nursing staff as directed to ensure consumer care. 
    15. Complete daily medication reconciliation.
    16. Perform detailed medical office support work accurately.
    17. Prioritize work and coordinate several activities.
    18. Organize and maintain accurate patient and general files and records.
    19. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the    course of the work.
    20. Assist with front end operations, as needed.
    21. Other duties, as assigned.

     

    Requirements

    Educational / Talent Requirements:
    1. High School diploma or equivalent.
    2. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, required.
    3. Ability to interact with staff and residents of diverse populations required
    4. Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats to meet position responsibilities.
    5. Ability to perform non-physical and physical interventions with clients in accordance with CMH guidelines and Behavioral Management plans in order to protect the client, other clients and self.  This requires the physical ability to appropriately restrain a client with or without assistance from co-workers
    6. Demonstrated leadership skills, required.
    7. Understand basic record keeping principles.
    8. Ability to compose routine correspondence from brief instructions. 
    9. Ability to use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
    10. Abililtiy to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
    11. Ability to articulate and actively support the mission of the corporation to various audiences.
     
    Work Experience Requirements:
    1. At least one year of experience, preferred.
    2. At least one year of experience handling and administrating medications, preferred.
    3. Current driver's license with acceptable driving record according to Hope Network corporate policy.
